Preparing your Will
Use our free Will-making service to meet in person with a Queensland Public Trustee Will maker who will prepare your Will in line with your wishes.
The process of making a Will with us
Our Will-making service will involve a one-hour meeting with a Queensland Public Trustee Will maker at one of our locations across Queensland. The process for making a Will with us is as follows:
- You can book an appointment at one of our locations to meet with one of our Will makers or contact us on 1300 360 044.
- When booking your appointment, you will be given instructions on how to prepare for the meeting.
- You will attend the meeting where we will discuss your wishes and options available.
- We will write and prepare your Will based on the discussion in the meeting.
- You then review the Will we have prepared to check it meets your requirements. If needed, we can make changes to the Will after you review it.
- Once you are happy with the final version, you can sign the Will in our offices where we will ensure it is correctly witnessed.
- We will provide you with a copy of your Will and Acknowledgement of Advice (a summary of the matters discussed at your appointment. Then we can hold your original Will at our storage facility, so it is safe and secure.
If your circumstances change and you need to change your Will, you can do this at any time by contacting us. Read more about the times you might need to consider changing your Will.
Making your Will with us
At Queensland Public Trustee our focus is to make sure your choices will be honoured by having an up-to-date Will in place. We are focused on understanding and following your wishes and instructions.
We will:
- provide you with information about the role of executors
- provide an impartial witness to your Will
- give you trusted and independent information
- provide your Will and any updates free-of-charge.

Kylie was 22 when she died in a tragic accident. She did not have a Will and her estate received a $2 million insurance payout due to her accidental death. Because she had not made a Will, Kylie’s estate was divided between her parents, even though Kylie’s father left the family when Kylie was six months old.

The Will-making appointment is based on preparing your individual Will. Most couples do come and make their Wills together. Generally, we do not recommend anyone apart from your spouse coming into the interview. If you had other people present in the interview, your Will may be challenged due to their presence and possible influence on you. This situation could result in the Will being invalid.

No, you do not need to have decided who your executor will be. We can offer you information based on your situation to help you decide who to choose. It would be a good idea to think about who you would appoint as executor, and you may even discuss that with them before making your Will.

Yes. Queensland Public Trustee can make a new Will for you catering for any changes you would like to make. This service is free of charge.
