Real-world example
Life-planning can reduce stress during difficult times
David lived with his wife and three school-aged children. On his way home from work one day, he was involved in a car accident. David sustained significant injuries leaving him in a coma and subsequently with limited decision-making abilities.
David had several bank accounts in his name only, which meant his wife was not able to access them when David was injured. This created a stressful situation for David’s family during this time because they could not access this money to pay for the family’s living expenses.
If David had made an enduring power of attorney appointing his wife as his attorney, she could have accessed the bank accounts using this document.
